General

We recommend having a complimentary check up every couple years. If you sustain a strong knock to a piece of jewellery, or hear a gem rattling it is best to bring the piece to us as soon as possible so we may tighten or repair the setting, and ensure no gem is lost.

Storing jewellery

Please keep your jewellery if not being worn, within its jewellery box, or jewellery pouch if travelling.  Gems within jewellery (especially diamond) can easily scratch other gems or pieces of jewellery so it is best to keep these separate.

Cleaning jewellery

For diamond, emerald, sapphire, garnet, Cats eye and many other crystalline gems the best method of cleaning is to gently clean the jewel using a soft bristle toothbrush dipped in warm water with a little washing up liquid.
It is better to avoid using any ultrasonic cleaning machines (which jewellers often use) as many natural gemstones without treatments will have natural fissures and cracks. Chemical solution can become trapped in these and dry out the gems.

For organic gems coral and pearl, it is best to gently clean and wipe these with warm water and a soft cloth.  Do not spray perfume on these items, it is better to remove the jewellery for perfume and put it back on once the perfume on the skin is dry.

Please be careful with your jewel, even diamond can be chipped, cracked or broken in unfortunate circumstances so it is better to remove a ring if gardening or doing anything which might put strain on the jewel.
